Hybrid Classes at Globe University

A hybrid class provides students with the advantages of face-to-face instruction combined with the flexibility of online study. Classes meet for half the sessions in a classroom; students complete the remaining requirements online. At Globe University, we offer a variety of hybrid classes in every program, from business to health sciences to IT.

How do hybrids work?

Components of a hybrid course may include lectures, case studies, tutorials, self-testing exercises, simulations and group projects. Instructors use computer-based technologies to transform learning tools such as these into online formats. Students complete the remainder of the course material during on-campus presentations. Instructors determine the elements that will be presented online.

What are the requirements for a hybrid class?

Students who take a hybrid class must complete the Globe University’s online orientation course. This orientation introduces students to the procedures and resources used in online classes. It also familiarizes them with Blackboard™, our online course delivery system. They must log in to their classes multiple times during “online sessions” and attend each on-campus session. As with any class, instructors determine other requirements, such as assignments, projects, readings and discussions.

Why take hybrid classes?

These classes are perfect for people who are not sure about their readiness for a fully online degree program and those who enjoy some face-to-face learning. They are great for students whose work schedules vary — for example, a student who works nights one week and days the next may find that a hybrid class allows him or her to attend college after all. Taking a hybrid course reduces costs — students only commute by car or bus half the time. Hybrid classes also increase the amount of time available to complete assignments and work on projects.

How do I enroll?

Each of the 12 locations of Globe University/Minnesota School of Business decides which classes it will offer as hybrids. You select the campus that offers the classroom portion of a hybrid course from the class schedule guide. Courses offered as hybrids are indicated with an “H” in the course schedule. Check with the instructor for information about the days and times of the campus meetings. Students in either online or residential programs can take hybrid classes — it’s up to them.
