How does an online health fitness degree program work?
In our online HFS program, students can study and complete assignments at their convenience – whenever and wherever an internet connection exists. Courses include scientific material combined with cutting-edge skill training. Students learn anatomy, biomechanics, kinesiology, and physiology, in order to understand the body’s response to exercise. They also study fitness assessment, sport psychology, exercise prescription, youth fitness and worksite health promotion. Industry experts like Paul Taylor, Brian Grasso, Tom Purvis and Greg Roskopf have contributed content to ensure that the HFS program is up-to-date for our students. Students also complete coursework in management, business, marketing, sales, and human resources—skills that prepare them for management positions in the health fitness industry.
The health fitness specialist bachelor’s degree affords students the opportunity to sit for two of the most highly regarded certifications in the industry: Muscle Activation TechniquesTM Jumpstart certification and the Resistance Training Specialist 1,2,3 certification. No other school has access to that content. We offer both of these certifications in weekend seminars throughout the United States and annually in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area through Globe University's on-campus Health Fitness Specialist program. Students are also eligible to take several personal trainer certification exams. We encourage students to apply for our Professional Certification Scholarship to defray costs associated with certification exams.
Degrees available through our online college
We offer the following Health Fitness Specialist degrees:
- Associate in Applied Science in Health Fitness Specialist, a 2-year program that provides science-based training for entry into the health, fitness and exercise science industry. Studies include exercise science, kinesiology, biomechanics, nutrition, special populations, physiology, marketing, and sales management.
- Bachelor of Science in Health Fitness Specialist, a “4-year” degree program that can be completed in three years of full-time study. In addition to all coursework in the AAS program, BS students study advanced topics including sports psychology, youth fitness, Muscle Activation TechniquesTM Jumpstart, Resistance Training Specialist 1,2,3 and managerial coursework. Business, marketing and management classes will open doors for students looking to get into the business side of health fitness.
Each of these credentials combines technical, scientific and clinical training with business, marketing and management skills. As a graduate, you will be prepared to advance along your organization’s pay scale, move into management or operate an independent fitness-related business.
MATTM Jumpstart training
Students in the bachelor’s degree program can take MATTM Jumpstart seminars. This unique program teaches students to evaluate and treat biomechanical imbalances that can lead to repetitive stress injuries. Students can also complete courses in resistance training specialist (RTS) and electives in workplace diversity, change management, and recruitment and retention.
